Gustav Blom is a Management Information Systems major with a minor in Psychology at RIT's Saunders College of Business and a member of RIT's Division I men's hockey team. Through an independent study with RIT faculty, he began researching the cybersecurity challenges facing small businesses and found a problem too large to ignore. These businesses are the backbone of local economies yet remain the most vulnerable to cyberattacks, lacking the resources and expertise to protect themselves. That research became a peer-reviewed paper presented at the ISCAP Conference, and rather than leaving it on the page, Gustav co-founded CYPER to turn the insight into a solution. CYPER helps small and medium-sized businesses assess and strengthen their cybersecurity posture through self-assessment tools that tailor recommendations to their industry, size, and risk profile. Gustav took the company through RIT's Bernard Kozel Startup Program and was selected for the Syracuse Innovation Law Center, where the team explored patentability and intellectual property strategy, validating both the product's originality and its commercial potential. Gustav is committed to making cybersecurity accessible and actionable for every small business.
